Blog post

I recently realize again that sense of humor is an important ingredient for us to live in such a fragile and turbulent society.   We tend to worry and get depressed sometimes at many complex issues we face today.  We can see poverty,  and conflicts of various kinds in the corner of the world, just to name a few.  It is no wonder sometimes I feel depressed and overwhelmed at the huge task ahead of us to do even a little for these issues. i.e. I get too serious and uptight, feeling paralyzed. It becomes even more important when going gets tough for some personal reasons.

If I can laugh at myself, I regain the balance.   One way of releasing tension and stress is to step back and find something funny.  Keeping the sense of humor goes a long way to be innovative and creative, it seems. (Another way of keeping the balance and of not taking things too personal is to do exercise–whether running, hitting the ball, throwing somebody or getting thrown.)

Thinking about these countermeasures  is one, but doing it yourself is another. How can I remind myself to have a sense of humor?

    Dear Professor,

I have been reading your blog fairly frequently , and i find the point that you have made about sense humor very relavant in todays time

what i practice is to look at things from a presective that any problem or stress is only momentary and if i see it only as a comedy of errors rather than a life threating situation then my responses mechanism tend to do better 🙂
