Last night I went to the live by Yuka Kamebuchi at Mandala, just off Aoyama. I went to the session with her several years ago, as I belonged to the same women’s group with her. She taught us how to sing a gospel and I had a fabulous time then.
This time, my young friends invited me as they know I love jazz etc. and I was fortunate to have that night free and happily accepted the invitation. We got there around 7:00 p.m. in the heavy rain and wind. The first set began around 7:30 p.m. with various songs–Latin, U.S., chanson, and the Japanese songs. I loved her sing some of the songs by Piaf. (She said that she wanted to sing French chanson. I had never expected her sing Piaf, but it was FANTASTIC!)
The second set began with Jun Fukamachi and Yuka Kamebuchi. The night ended with some of her favorites–blues which made everybody swing. Those who were there completely forgot about the storm outside and shared the great moments. I almost forgot that we were in Tokyo! What a great way to spend Monday night!
