Blog post

It is quite cold in NYC at low 30sF.  Sun was out today, making it even more beautiful.  Though I was quite tired from 11+ hr flight from Tokyo, my unit was not ready when I arrived naturally. (It is such a busy season in NYC as many people come for shopping etc.)  So after I checked notes/blog entries at the library, I decided to have brunch with my mentor friend.  As they are in 80s and 90s, I suggested the cafe next door to their apartment for brunch.  This is the professor from UVA and his wife I usually see while in NYC (in fact, they were kind enough to let me stay with them when I could not get the room at my usual place.) It was good to catch up with them.  I felt much better after brunch and nice conversation, and went to David Geffen hall of Lincoln Center for NY Phil concert.  I picked matinee out of three day series (due to my jet lag and headache), and it was very nice.  I believe it was the first time I heard Jaap vam Zweden, new music director of NY Phil, conduct.  The second piece, Select songs by Schubert & R. Strauss with Mattias Goerne, Baritone was nice, too.  The concert ended with Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor.  We heard that it was the birthday of NY Philharmonic and they performed a very nice piece entitled “To the music.”  It describes how music makes us alive and helps us recover from sadness.  I was very moved by the lyrics.

After the concert, I checked in to my unit, unpacked my suitcase and went for workout briefly at the nearby sports club. It is always good to keep your daily workout wherever you are. I felt revived..  It is nice to be back in my favorite city.
