I flew from Haneda airport to Bangkok last night (rather very early this morning.)  It was the first time for me to fly from the “new” Haneda International terminal.  It is much easier to access from Tokyo and more convenient.   I felt that I could easily hop on the cab to get there.  (When I go to Narita, I feel I need to allow so much time  just in case something goes wrong in the process.)

The international terminal is nice and big.  It was packed with people taking the flights taking off between 10:00 p.m. to midnight or so.  As I wanted to allow enough time, I got there quite early (i.e. over 2 hours before the scheduled departure time).  Though automatic gate did not work for me this time again, the procedure was quick and I was at the lounge with 1.5 hours before the flight.

The lounge is nice, but waiting for 1.5 hours was a bit long and I almost fell asleep.  My little pleasure at the airport lounge is to have beer on tap before boarding, while reading/sending email etc. (It tastes so good, partly because I feel so relaxed and am looking forward to the  trip whenever I am at the lounge.)  But I refrained from that routine at Haneda.  I KNEW that I would fall asleep if I had beer on tap.

At 12:15, finally the boarding started.   I was so happy to board and be on the way.  As I prepared for the arrival document, I saw the column saying Visa number.  (I had not even checked whether I needed visa to go to Bangkok, so I became worried. )  I thought if the worst comes after worse and they did not let me go into the country because I did not have visa, I will turn around and come back!  The flight attendant was kind enough to tell me that I need no visa, to my great relief!

Flight was smooth (I was asleep and did not feel any turbulence!)  In less than 6 hours, I was at Bangkok airport.  The walk was quite long at the terminal to get to Immigration etc., but it was in a way refreshing as I was tired of sitting for so long.   5+ hour flight leaving midnight from Haneda is convenient, but I wish more flights leave from Haneda during the reasonable hour of the day.   If we have many international flights leaving from Haneda, I will find overseas trips much easier and accessible.   My first experience at Haneda…  Will see how I feel when I arrive there when I come back.

  1. My husband and i got thankful when Chris managed to carry out his basic research through the ideas he acquired using your site. It’s not at all simplistic to simply possibly be handing out thoughts which usually some others could have been making money from. And we also already know we now have the website owner to be grateful to for this. The explanations you have made, the simple website menu, the friendships you will help foster – it is everything powerful, and it’s really aiding our son and us do think the concept is amusing, which is certainly incredibly fundamental. Thanks for the whole lot!
