Blog post

Today, March 26, is my mother’s birthday.  (No information as to how young she is!)  I went to see my parents in Yokohama to celebrate her birthday.  I brought flowers only,as I heard from my father that everything–steak, birthday cake etc.–would be ready.

I cooked steak (could be done better, as it was a bit overcooked!) and three of us enjoyed conversation over steak dinner.  As my birthday was last Saturday, we celebrated by blowing candles on the cake together!  It worked!    It was nice to be able to celebrate her birthday.  Though she is getting weak and on oxygen often, she  is still able to get up, come on wheelchair and eat.  (In fact, she had quite a bit of appetite tonight!)

After dinner, we gave her birthday cards.   Then we brought her back to bed as she got tired.  This is the routine that we follow whenever I go to visit them.   We have been very fortunate as my father is quite healthy, takes care of grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning and caring for her.

It was a nice way to celebrate her  birthday.  As I think of her, my heart went to those people (of the same age as my parents are)  who suffered from the earthquake and tsunami and who are staying at the rescue center.

I think this is the best way to celebrate birthdays, with beloved family at home. I think your mother made her day! Happy birthday to you and your mother.
